Kuchisake Onna, also known as The Slit-Mouthed Woman, is a scary Japanese urban legend about a disfigured Japanese woman who brandishes a large scissors and preys on ren. She has an enormous slit mouth, which extends from ear to ear in a horrible, permanent smile.

The video recounts the well-known story of the severed-mouth woman (kuchisake-onna), a malicious blade-wielding lady with a slit mouth (which she keeps hidden behind a surgical mask) who is bent on cutting open the mouths of strangers. Apparently a modern interpretation of an old Heian period legend, this tale sparked a mass panic in Japan in the late ’70s and early ’80s, as news reports circulated about a slit-mouthed woman terrorizing neighborhoods across the country.

The Slit-Mouthed Woman (or Kuchisake-onna) is a prominent Japanese urban legend. Rumours of alleged sightings of the Slit-Mouthed Woman began spreading around in 1979 around the Nagasaki Prefecture, causing panic in many Japanese towns.

The woman puts one or more of her fingers in the mouth, usually near the corner, as she presses them lightly between her teeth.

Kuchisake-onna (口裂け女, Kuchisake-onna?) ("Slit-Mouth Woman") refers to both a story in Japanese mythology, as well as a modern version of the tale of a woman, mutilated by a jealous husband, and returned as a malicious spirit bent on committing the same acts done to her.
