They became charter members of the Russian Honey Bee Breeders Association in 2008. Coy’s is currently the only large, migratory outfit to move to Russian stock. Significantly, this was done to increase honey production and reduce losses, not to produce and sell queens to the beekeeping public.

Members of the Russian Honeybee Breeders Association (RHBA) will present a day long program on queen rearing during the Short Course on Tuesday, August 14 th. RHBA has, since its incorporation on November 1, 2007, worked to improve Varroa mite tolerance of the Russian honeybee.

The Russian Honey Bee Breeders Association worked with the staff at the Baton Rouge Bee Lab to establish standards and qualifications for our members. Their purpose is to ensure the highest degree of genetic integrity in the Russian Honey Bee Program.

“Russian honey bees” and Russian hybrids are advertised for sale by non-RHBA members. There is very little chance these so-called “Russians” are pure bred and they are unlikely to have the exceptional characteristics of pure-bred Russian honey bees.
