No you don’t need to use condoms if you have the Nuvaring unless you just started using the Nuvaring. Please confirm with your doctor how long he/she wants you to use another form of contraception when you start using Nuvaring.
You must wear NuvaRing for three weeks straight and remove it for one week in order for it to be effective. If your NuvaRing falls out during sexual intercourse, or if it is bothersome during sex and you have to remove it, rinse it with lukewarm water and reinsert it deeply into the vagina.
You dont want to be taking nuvaring out during sex. If it bothers your bf then you should probably talk to your provider about other options. Having Nuvaring in and out isnt a good idea and will end up putting you at risk for pregnancy.

I’ve used the ring for several years with no problems. I leave it in during sex because my spouse isn’t bothered by it, and I’ve never had a problem with it falling out.

Since it is only suppose to be washed with warm water, have her place it somewhere sterile while it’s out (a ziploc bag is a good idea). One of the reasons why women do not like the ring is a small incidence of infection because women take it in and out without washing it with anything more
